As you all know, Blogger has a new feature which allows you to change your blog's favicon without HTML coding (you still can use the codes if you want though).
Well, some people, including myself, have been experiencing some trouble with their favicons because Blogger wouldn't show them at all or wouldn't update them to the new one.
I've made some research and I found out how to fix this.
If you changed your favicon on the Layout section of your blog or used the HTML code and it doesn't work or doesn't show the right favicon, just do the following steps:
—————————————————————
Step 1: On the address bar, type http://[your blog url]/favicon.ico and press Enter.
Step 2: Refresh the page.
Step 3: Go back to your blog.
—————————————————————
After doing this your favicon should be the right one.
Leave a comment below to let us know if it worked or not for you.

Hello
ReplyDeleteHello. :)
ReplyDeleteHello there. Just wanna inform it works well ;)
ReplyDeleteBtw, must add the after the html ;D
Thanks for testing and approving my tutorial. :)
ReplyDeleteI tried all ways but it dont work
ReplyDeletesite: http://www.dunyaningercekyuzu.com/
thank you
This tutorial is for blogs hosted on Blogger only.
ReplyDeleteIf your website isn't Blogger hosted, I don't know how to help you.
Let me know your website hosting site and I'll see what I can do.
tried using the HTML code but when i clicked preview it said that there's an error and The element type "link" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".
ReplyDeleteThat's weird. Have you tried clearing your cache and deleting your cookies?
ReplyDeleteI've also found that in the design area, if you change the uploaded ico name to something other than favicon.ico (e.g. mine.ico), it will update it properly.
ReplyDeleteyou must add " after the given html code, to complete it.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.wtfbymike.com
Mine still isn't working. :/ I uploaded the html. No luck. www.sallyannk.com
ReplyDeleteMine did the same thing and I work on blogger. Keep getting the error message. Cleared my cache and cookies from the past month and still can't get the favicon to work.
ReplyDeleteIn blogger, you'll need to always end off your tags. For example, needs to close it off. But for the top link, you can add a forward slash to fix the problem you're having. It will look like this,
ReplyDeleteNote, the problem of the favicon not updating probably requires you clearing the cache from your browser.
For those that still can't get their favicon to update, do this.
ReplyDeleteGo to http://blogspot-url/favicon.ico
(instead of blogspot-url, put your blog's link. for me it's kredentis.blogspot.com.au/ and then add favicon.ico at the end. For me it's "http://kredentis.blogspot.com.au/favicon.ico"
loading this will probably show you your old favicon. Press CTRL+F5 on windows, or CMD+F5 on MAC. Now you should see your new favicon. Go back to your blog and refresh the page.
Voila!
Thank you for your information. Unfortunately it does not seem to be working for me. I've tried the html code and the favicon adder from the edit layout screen. I've got a 16x16 .ico file and I've tried your refresh method but to no avail. Any thoughts? It is Blogger hosted w/ custom domain name... http://myfrugalfitness.com Thank you so much and keep up the great work
ReplyDeleteit worked! Thanks a lot!

I visited your blog and its favicon shows a strawberry. I suppose it's working.

ReplyDeletereally helpful
I don't know why that works but, thank you! It worked! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Thank you!! I've sat for days trying to add the code where I didn't need to before. I did what you mention above, and within seconds my favicon was working. If everyone does what is mentioned here (where Blogger is concerned), there is no need to add any code to html. So, yay! :)
ReplyDeleteI was skeptical because it seemed too simple. But it worked! Sorry I doubted.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!!

ReplyDeletebro when I put this in the bar, it leads to google search.. plz help... :(
ReplyDeleteThe only way for that to happen is if you don't insert your website/blog's URL where is says "[your blog url]". That's probably what you're doing wrong, since I tested it in the moment I read your comment and it worked just fine.
ReplyDeleteIt worked bro. Thanks a lot!

ReplyDeletenot working
ReplyDeleteThanks, got it working ~ Happy Week to you ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteI am still having trouble ~ thought it was working ~ will try again ~
ReplyDeleteTried it and didn't work. after some research this was what I had to do:
ReplyDeleteIn certain situations, Google Chrome and others may cease to show the favicons of your bookmarks and tabs. The favicon will be replaced by a white globe icon, and clicking on the bookmark will not make it appear again.
The "white globe" icon in Google Chrome, indicating a missing bookmark favicon.
To solve this, close Google Chrome and then follow these instructions:
Windows: delete or rename the Favicons file located at C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
or
C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_nameI\Definições locais\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
If you relaunch Chrome and try to click on a bookmark, the favicon should reappear after the page has finished loading.
Worked! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWell that was simple! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWow I wasn't expecting that to work!! Thanks :) xxx
ReplyDeleteWow, it works! Thank you so much! I've been looking for this for awhile.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work for me. When I type in this address it shows the default blogger favicon, even though the one I uploaded shows up in 'Layout' ??
ReplyDeleteMmm. I tried again, and when I hit refresh it did change to my favicon. Except that my actual blog is still showing the default orange blogger one.
ReplyDeleteOkay, it's working now. Thanks for the solution!!
ReplyDeleteSame
ReplyDeleteAs you can see on the comment above, Jud managed to get this method working. Simply keep trying.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Thank you so much! <3<3<3<3<3<3<3
